Project Pan #2

October 19, 2012 | , , , , , , , ,
To put it bluntly, I have far too much beauty 'stuff'. By beauty 'stuff' I mean make up (obviously), haircare, skincare and small amount of body stuff products. Given that

Back in November of last year I participated in Project Pan. Essentially Project Pan is all about going on a make up purchasing strike and refusing to buy any more make up/beauty products until you've used up a certain amount of products. Last time I set myself the goal of using five product because, well, I wanted a goal that was achievable.

I found Project Pan to be quite successful and, this time, have decided to set myself a better goal this time. This time I've decided that I have to finish fifteen products before I can purchase more beauty products. Hopefully I save a bit 'cos my IMATS 2013 saving is failing so far.

Once again, here are the rules for my second Project Pan. I've taken few of these rules from the last time I participated and others I've added since -

  • To include a product in the fifteen I must have used it up completely. Some people say cosmetics can be counted once someone 'hits pan' but that seems pointless to me
  • Products will be included unless I need to repurchase it and my skincare routine will not be compromised, however I may give other products I own a try after finishing my current products
  • Hair products, unless they are essentials that I feel must replaced, are counted
  • Nail products are counted
  • I have managed to accumulate a ridiculous amount of body stuff, so soaps, body wash and anything else body related will count
  • If I find myself trying a new product that is breaking me out or giving me a reaction etc., I will stop using it and the product won't be counted
  • If I finish a product and feel that I don't have a replacement in my collection I can repurchase it and the product won't be counted
Last time I participated in Project Pan I posted weekly/fortnightly updates which gave me a chance to update my viewers on myself and my life, as well as my empties. I may uploaded these updates, we'll see, but the products will be featured in my empties posts also.

As with anything, there are also exceptions and I want to make them clear up front so people don't start hatin' on me later on. Once again, I've taken few of these from the last time I participated and others I've added since -
  • Blog purchases (including giveaways and products purchased by request to review) are not included
  • Ridiculous bargains and/or limited edition products do not count
  • I will continue to receive my Lust Have It! and Bella Box subscriptions
  • Products sent to me for review on my blog are not included in the sense that they are not purchases
  • I am in the process of ordering a couple of products through MAC Pro. This was organised before I set myself this challenge and, therefore, are totally fine
I've read some people's Project Pan posts, such as Amy from Beauty in a Bottle, who have decided that they can buy make up but aren't allowed to use it until they finish an equivalent in their current collection. Given that my saving is failing me at the moment, I need to set myself a full beauty spending ban.

This spending ban is effective as of October 10. I haven't had a chance to upload this until now because I've had other posts I've wanted to get up but, yes, I've been doing this for a week now.

Are you currently participating in a spending ban/Project Pan? If so, how are you going? Also, have you participated in one in the past? How did you go? I want to shop already.

Always look your best,
Sophie
