Foundation Routine

Before and after foundation
Photos were taken a couple of days before video was filmed,
after a week of having my skin play up.
My skin had cleared up slightly by the time I filmed the video
The tutorial side of a Foundation Routine is traditionally posted in a video but I'm not going to do that. Instead, I've posted a video of me applying my foundation (see below) so I'll be taking this opportunity to explain what's being done in the video.

Firstly, these are the products used in my everyday foundation routine at the moment

  • NP Set Calming Foundation Primer
  • NARS Sheer Glow in Mont Blanc
  • MAC Select Cover Up concealer in NC20
  • MAC Studio Fix Powder in NC20
  • Bare Minerals Original SPF 15 Foundation sample in Fairly Light
  • Avon Smooth Mineral foundation in Bronze
  • NARS Powder blush in Orgasm
Now, let's get into how I apply my foundation. This routine is medium to full coverage, depending on how much foundation and/or concealer I apply.
  1. Primer: I apply NP Set Calming Foundation primer all over my face, starting in the middle of my face (t-zone) and working the product out.
  2. NARS Sheer Glow Foundation: I dot this foundation ALL over my face, blot it all over my face with my Sigma F80 Flat Top Kabuki brush so it looks like I have a mask of foundation then buff into my skin with the same brush. Additional foundation can be applied where more coverage is needed (e.g. chin and nose for me) by following step 2.
  3. MAC Select Cover Up: I dot a small amount of product on blemishes and/or discolouration, as well as under my eyes to cover undereye circles and pigmentation. My Sigma P80 Precision Brush is used much like the F80. I use the  P80 to blot the concealear on blemishes then buff it in. Undereye concealer is blended using a fluffy blending brush or my ring finger.
  4. Bare Minerals Original SPF 15 Foundation: I use any loose powder to set my concealer. I recently obtained a sample of the Bare Minerals SPF 15 foundation powder, so that's what I've been using at the moment. I use a fluffy brush to apply powder onto my concealer, especially the undereye concealer.
  5. MAC Studio Fix powder: I use one of my favourite brushes, Nude by Nature's Mineral Foundation brush, to apply pressed powder all over my face. The powder sets the foundation and concealer, whilst providing additional coverage. I will often use Maybelline Mineral Power Finishing Veil instead.
  6. Avon Smooth Mineral foundation in Bronze: This is a reasonably new product for me, but I've been really liking it. This bronzer is applied to the hollows of my cheekbones, my jawline and brushed across my temples to provide my face with some definition. I use my EcoTools Mineral Powder brush to contour.
  7. NARS powder blush: My blush varies daily. At the moment I've been using NARS' Orgasm blush, but it's highly dependent on my mood/occasion/make up look. Unlike a look of people, I don't apply blush to the apples of my cheek bones. Towards my nose my face is quite red and I find blush intensifies that look. I like to focus my blush outwards, ensuring that it's blended well and as natural as possible.
I'm not sure if this post and the video has helped, but I sure hope it has! Please leave any foundation routine questions or tips below. I'd love to hear how you all apply your foundation too. Is it the same? Do you have other brushes that you love?

Also, don't forget to enter my GlossyBox competition for a chance to win a 6 month Glossy Box subscription. Wow!

Always look your best,
Sophie

  1. You have that technique down pat - looks fantastic! I need a new foundation brush...the one I use ends up making mine look a bit streaky in places, the Sigma one might be worth a try! Thanks for sharing!!

    1. Thanks, Hollie. Definitely consider the brush, it's great! I'm looking at investing the complete set.

    2. I cant believe you wear all that every day. I just use bare minerals by itself and then a bronzer. It stays all day too.

    3. Hi, Anonymous. I know it looks like a lot, but it's not that bad! The products are all very light, especially the foundation. As you saw at the beginning, my skin isn't the best so the products give me a lot of confidence.
